Pterygium surgery
Surgical removal of abnormal tissue growth from the surface of the eye.
Precision treatment
for lasting results
Pterygium surgery is performed to remove an abnormal growth of tissue from the surface of the eye. This growth can cause irritation, redness, and discomfort and, in some cases, may affect vision if it extends toward the cornea.
At The Eye Center, pterygium surgery is carefully planned to protect overall eye health, improve comfort, and preserve vision. Your physician will evaluate the size, location, and impact of the pterygium to determine whether surgical treatment is appropriate.
What to Expect During the Procedure
During pterygium surgery, the abnormal tissue is removed from the surface of the eye. When necessary, the treated area is carefully reconstructed using sutures to promote proper healing. This surgical approach is designed to help reduce the likelihood of regrowth while maintaining the health of the surrounding tissue.
Your physician will review the procedure in advance and explain what to expect on the day of surgery. Every effort is made to ensure patient comfort throughout the process, and the procedure is performed with precision and attention to detail.
Pterygium
Pterygium is a growth on the surface of the eye that leads to chronic irritation, redness, discomfort, and a sensation of having a foreign body in the eye. As the tissue grows, it can distort the cornea, resulting in changes to vision and reduced visual clarity. Progressive growth may further impact sight, but surgical removal of the abnormal tissue can help protect vision and reduce the risk of recurrence.

Recovery and next steps
Your physician will provide specific activity restrictions based on your particular condition. Some patients can resume regular activities the following day, while others may need to take it easy for a few days. We will give you clear written instructions before you leave our office.
Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor your healing and ensure the treatment achieved the desired result. These visits allow us to check your eye pressure, assess vision changes, and confirm vision has fully recovered. Most patients notice improvement in their symptoms within days to weeks.
If you experience unexpected pain, sudden vision changes, or increased redness after your procedure, contact us immediately. We maintain same-day access for urgent concerns to ensure your safety and peace of mind.
Our team remains available to answer any questions about your recovery. Whether you need clarification on your restrictions, have concerns about your healing, or simply want reassurance, we are here to support you through the process.
